About the event
Through the meditative art of darningand patching, we’ll renovate and embellish garments we already own for a sustainable fashion approach.
This hands-on workshop invites you to slow down and repurpose your clothes with visible, beautiful repairs that tell stories rather than hide them—turning worn spots and tears into badges of love and continued use.
Throughout history and across cultures, people have been mending textiles to extend their beauty, wearability, and utility, for both practical, sustainable and sentimental reasons where each stitch is a glorious sign of who you are and what you love and where your clothes have been.
We will look at visible mending from different cultures:
Sashiko: Japanese visible mending technique that is now also used to repair denim clothes and to create decorative pieces. You can create stunning geometrical patterns with a running stitch.
Boro: a kind of densely layered patchwork, to make garments warmer and last…
